Dr. Charles H. Logan: Shanley's superior. President of Logan Bible Institute (LBI), a growing evangelical empire with headquarters and college in Nashua, NH. Good shepherd facade hides maniacal lust for power, wealth, and religious prestige. Revered by most as "God's Prophet"—never to be questioned. Villainous yet human.

Rebecca Lea Reinhardt: Offbeat 19-year-old LBI freshman. (Enrolled to please missionary mother.) Pouty-faced brunette with irresistible blue eyes. Shy, witty, sassy, capricious, secretly prurient—yet innately sensitive and sad behind her moods. Into video games, tight Levi's, animals, rock music.

Sharon (Pedersen) Shanley: Jim's attractive Norwegian wife. Domestic, maternal, demure, but hotly sensual behind the scenes. Seeks approval from others, especially her strict Lutheran mother.

Stanley Campbell: Pastor Jim's craggy-faced head elder. Irish, blue-collar, oaklike physique. Proud, pharisaical, fiercely loyal to Dr. Logan and the LBI vision. Sees himself as champion in the war against Lucifer.

Russell Bradley: BFBC elder. Shanley's laid-back friend and confidant, and "yoda." Antithesis of Stan Campbell. Instinctive, warm-spirited, never in a rush. Despises Dr. Logan.

Matthew Garrett: Dr. Logan's charming administrative assistant. Master at marketing and manipulation. Pale boyish face, slim catlike build—looks homosexual, and is.

Joseph Lareux: Pastor Jim's pot-smoking, guitar-playing songleader. LBI senior, and seeker of truth. Disenchanted with Dr. Logan. Inspired by Shanley's renegade confessions.
