General info: Under each image are 2 catalog numbers, the Scott # on left, and SH (Spruce Hill) # on right. Also under the stamp you may find remarks (in italics) regarding that specific stamp (pro & con), though in most cases the image speaks for itself, and no remarks are necessary. Above each image you find grade & gum info (left to ctr) plus certificate info, if any. Also above (upper right) is the selling price. Each stamp is sound (free from defects) unless otherwise stated, and each mint stamp has its original gum (OG) unless otherwise noted. (We use the term mint in its broader sense; any unused stamp with OG). There is a 10-DAY UNCONDITIONAL RETURN PRIVILEGE on any purchase.
The website images depict actual stamps in our SHS inventorywe never use generic photos, so the stamp you see is the stamp you get, if it's available. On average, 95% of the stamps displayed are unsold at any given time, plus we do have back-up stock for most Scott #'s. We treat each copy as a sole entity, with its own unique properties (grade, condition, gum, price, etc.). That's why we assign each stamp a unique SH # to establish its identity. Moreover, we have many Classic-era stamps, from gems to common, that have a SH # but haven't been scanned, so they can't be seen on this website until we have a jpeg image. It's an ongoing process as we purchase and sort collections & accumulations.

Note on stamp grading: We use the PSE 8-category (verbal & numerical) system. VG50 (Avg): The perfs cut into the design on one or two sides; F70: stamp quite off-center w perfs very close to design but not quite touching it; F-VF75: stamp off-center, margins narrow on one or two sides, but white space between perfs and design; VF80: stamp slightly off-center (Scott catalog benchmark grade); VF-XF85: stamp well- centered, margins ample but not equal; XF90: stamp well-centered, margins normal or larger than normal, but centering just a bit off; XF-S95: almost perfectly centered, but not quite, margins normal to large; S98: stamp perfectly centered, margins normal to large. Note: jumbo margins take a stamp up a grade. (Now for very old stamps, generally those issued before 1870, the grading is more forgiving, as those stamps were often printed in a very crowded manner leaving little room for four distinct margins; at the same time, prices include a significant premium for four distinct margins.) For used stamps, the grading also takes into account the cancellation (lighter, face-free cancels kick grade up, while heavy cancels (especially killer cancels) take grade down. If you don't use the PSE system, preferring the older (Avg-F, F-VF, VF), or any other grading system, that's A-OK. Just ignore our assigned ltr-#, and grade the stamp yourself, based on the image.
Gum categories for unused stamps: NH: full OG with no hinge mark or disturbance; OG: full original gum (except half-gum or more for pre-1879 issues) with sub-categories of LH, VLH, & HR (hinge remnant). DOG (disturbed OG): gum shows effects of humidity or hinging over more than half of the gum. NG: unused, no gum. RG: unused, regummed.
For any particular stamp, price is also affected by freshness, cleanness, plate impression, color, etcand faults of course (tears, thins, scuffs, stains, missing perfs, foreign substance, pin holes, notations on back, etc. etc.) We don't sell stamps with major faults, but we do include a few with minor faults, and they are discounted a great deal. And, as stated above, all our stamps are sound unless otherwise noted.
